Hostile review

The supergroup debut Christgau dismissed as wasted talent

Released in the US on 9 August 1969 (Atco) and in the UK on 22 August 1969 (Polydor). Blind Faith topped the US and UK album charts. A contemporary dismissive review, alongside chart results with their dates.

The verdict at the time

Christgau found none of the songs exceptional and warned he would 'put the album away and only play it for guests'; he praised Clapton but dismissed Winwood as 'the greatest wasted talent in the music'. A disappointed verdict on Blind Faith's debut.

One critic's opinion, summarised from Robert Christgau's Consumer Guide in The Village Voice of 14 August 1969. The album is now regarded as a classic of late-1960s British blues rock and psychedelic rock.
