Animals (1977)
Released in the UK on 21 January 1977. A contemporary hostile review in Rolling Stone on 24 March 1977, chart results from the US, UK and the Netherlands, and the album's later classic status.
The verdict at the time
Rose dismissed Animals as the work of a 'noodle factory': Gilmour's guitar solos were 'thin, brittle and a sorry substitute', the singing 'more wooden than ever', the message 'pointless and tedious', and the album itself something Floyd had 'done, with a thud.' A hostile verdict from Frank Rose in Rolling Stone on 24 March 1977 — attributed to the critic and the publication, not to Echo Mandala.
