Quadrophenia (1973): hostile Rolling Stone review, chart proof to the contrary
Released in the UK on 29 October 1973. A hostile contemporary review in Rolling Stone, alongside chart results in the US, UK and Germany with their dates.
The verdict at the time
Kaye described Quadrophenia as "the Who at their most symmetrical, their most cinematic, ultimately their most maddening", called it a "crisis of concept" that "faltered badly", and concluded that "Quadrophenia falls short of the mark". Negative verdict attributed to Rolling Stone and Lenny Kaye — not Echo Mandala's own judgment.
