Bigmoth: Carbon Error reviewed on The Prog Space

Bigmoth Carbon Error 2026 09 25

Amsterdam-based progressive groove metal quintet Bigmoth release their debut album Carbon Error on 25 September as a self-release. The Prog Space reviewer Bob rates it 8/10, noting the band's promising potential.

The five-track, 35-minute album was recorded with session drummer Mike Malyan (Monuments), though the current lineup features Jynn de Jongh on drums. Vocalist Zemfira Baghirova draws comparisons to Tatiana Shmayluk of Jinjer but displays a wider range across clean and extreme styles. Guitarist Yannik Sieburg and bassist Mikhail Voeykov weave complex, ever-changing patterns throughout.

Opener "Mantree I" spans 11:23, moving through lively guitar and bass interplay into a softer atmospheric close that leads into the mellower "Mantree II: Coma". The title track "Carbon Error" shifts from funky, groovy clean sections to urgent chaos with angrier vocals. "You're in Everything" offers the most melodic moment, though not without fierce outbursts, while the seven-minute closer "Meggah Konstrukt" attacks from the start and retreats into a quiet, subdued final minute.

Bob concludes: "This is a young band with hopefully a very promising future. Do not be surprised if they crop up at a venue near you or one of the European festivals." The title track received an official music video on the band's YouTube channel.
