Camel: Echoes and Dust reviews Earthrise – Live at the Marquee 1974

Esoteric Recordings, Cherry Red's progressive-rock imprint, released the 2-CD set Earthrise – Live at the Marquee 1974 on 30 January 2026. The recording captures Camel at London's Marquee Club on 30 October 1974, shortly before their first US tour and between the Mirage and The Snow Goose eras. The classic line-up — Andy Latimer (guitar, flute, vocals), Peter Bardens (keyboards), Doug Ferguson (bass) and Andy Ward (drums) — delivers a set that stretches well beyond the studio versions. Most of the material previously appeared on the 1978 live album A Live Record; the complete concert surfaced in the 2023 Air Born box set and now appears as a standalone release mixed from the original 16-track masters by Stephen W. Tayler. Echoes and Dust reviewer Zachary Nathanson notes the band's loose, electric interplay and highlights Bardens' energised organ and synthesiser work, Latimer's Gilmour-like guitar tone on The Snow Goose material and Ward's Nick Mason-esque introduction to Freefall. The 18-minute Homage to the God of Light closes the show with a Santana-tinged jam. The review calls it a thrilling snapshot of a band on the verge of its next chapter.
