Antonio Raia releases Σ [sigma], recorded in Berlin's oldest water tower

Italian saxophonist and composer Antonio Raia released his new album Σ [sigma] on 1 October via Kohlhaas Records. The record is the first chapter of a Berlin trilogy, recorded inside the Wasserturm in Prenzlauer Berg — the city's oldest water tower, built in 1877. Raia played baritone and alto saxophone, koshi and voice; producer Francesco Donadello captured the sessions without overdubs or post-production, letting the space shape the sound. The album follows Raia's 2018 solo debut Asylum and his 2024 collaboration with filmmaker Béla Tarr. Mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi, the cover was designed by Vasilis Marmatakis, known for his work with Yorgos Lanthimos. The track 'Touch and Presence' arrives with a video by Elio Di Pace, documenting the dialogue between saxophone and architecture. Kohlhaas Records offers the album on vinyl and digital.
