Genesis' 1969 debut revisited: Esoteric Recordings' Super Deluxe Edition reviewed

Echoes and Dust has published a detailed review of the new Esoteric Recordings Super Deluxe Edition of Genesis' 1969 debut From Genesis to Revelation, released October 9. The 4-CD/1-Blu-ray box set, mixed by Stephen W. Tayler, brings renewed clarity to the band's early psychedelic-pop recordings. Reviewer Zachary Nathanson explores how the new mixes reveal previously obscured details — from the orchestration behind Tony Banks' piano-led 'A Place to Call My Own' to the jazz-inflected waltz of 'The Magic of Time' — tracing the seeds of Genesis' later progressive grandeur. The collection includes demos, alternate takes, and the 1967 'Patricia' demo that evolved into 'In Hiding'. Nathanson concludes that while not Genesis' greatest album, this reissue helps listeners appreciate the band's musical curiosity and the distance they would travel.
