Deathchant: Geoff Topley reviews KOVA on Echoes and Dust

Deathchant

Californian heavy psych quartet Deathchant release their fourth album KOVA on 25 September via Riding Easy Records. The record is dedicated to the band's late friend Davy Kova and arrives three years after Thrones. Thomas J Lemieux (vocals, guitar, keys, bass) produced the album before Zach Weeks mixed it at Kurt Ballou's God City studio, preserving the group's raw sound. The nine tracks run from the Thin Lizzy-inflected gallop of "Enemy" through the bluesy croon of "Reverie" and the haunted female-voiced passage in "Worshipper" to the acoustic-to-heavy title track and the choral closer "Requiem". Reviewer Geoff Topley writes that KOVA hits a sweet spot of emotional depth and heaviness, calling it an awesome, spellbinding album. The first singles "Enemy" and "Kova/Crawl" are out now with official videos on the RidingEasy Records YouTube channel.
