Hawkwind — Silver Machine (Top of the Pops 1972)

Hawkwind

A rare television appearance by the UK space-rock pioneers, recorded at Dunstable Civic Hall on 7 July 1972 and first shown on BBC Top of the Pops on 13 July. The clip captures the lineup that turned Silver Machine into a UK No. 3 hit, with Lemmy Kilmister on vocals and guitar before his departure to Motörhead. Unhappy with miming in front of the studio audience, the band persuaded the BBC to film them playing live instead. The video stands as a concise archival document of Hawkwind at the moment they first brought kosmische urgency into the British charts.
