Labor of the Negative: Echoes and Dust reviews The Triumph of Time and the Disillusioned

International avant-garde black metal project Labor of the Negative released their debut album The Triumph of Time and the Disillusioned on 7 August 2026 via I, Voidhanger Records. The band — spanning Portugal, the UK, Norway and Egypt — takes its name from a passage in Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit concerning the "labour of the negative," while the album title references Händel's oratorio The Triumph of Time and Disillusion.
Echoes and Dust reviewer Zachary Nathanson, writing on 8 October 2026, describes a chaotic fusion of jazz saxophone, death and black metal, hardcore punk and grindcore. The six-part "Epoché" suite opens with snarling momentum, later channelling Radiohead's Kid A era transformed into death metal terrain. A gothic post-punk atmosphere reminiscent of The Cure's Pornography surfaces in "151: The Eternal Present and the Endless Dream," while Tangerine Dream's Zeit period blends with Elvin Jones-style drumming and King Crimson references. The review calls it "one of the most challenging, and downright killer, debuts I've heard in a long time."
Cover art is by Belian NecroArts. The album is available as a limited digipak CD and digitally via Bandcamp.
