Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats release Shapes of Midnight on Killer Candy Records

Cambridge cult doom-psych quintet Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats have released their seventh album Shapes of Midnight on 18 September via their own Killer Candy Records. The record marks a return to guitar-driven heavy rock after 2024's synth-centred concept piece Nell' Ora Blu. The Obelisk's July announcement confirmed the album was tracked live to analogue tape at Abbey Road Studios in a three-day session with engineer Chris Bolster, using vintage Neumann microphones and consoles; mastering was handled by Grammy-nominated Noel Summerville. Kevin Starrs describes the eight-song cycle as partly inspired by Poe's The Masque of the Red Death and "the too-real nightmares of our modern age," blending NWOBHM gallop, melancholic pop hooks and krautrock-tinged synth textures. The title track premiered on Bandcamp in July with an official video on the band's channel. UK tour dates run through November 2026. Mystification Zine's 16 September review calls the album a "thrilling, expertly composed fusion" that sharpens the group's signature "Evil Beatles" sound into their most riff-focused statement since Wasteland.
