Wilderspool's debut rises from Warrington's lost bands

Warrington trio Wilderspool have released their debut album As All The Stars Begin To Fade… on Think Like A Key Music. The record grew from an attempt to reunite Astrud, the 1990s band of brothers Paul "Trip" Ryan and Dez Ryan, alongside Stuart "Wiff" Smith of Frog — both groups fixtures of the North West scene that played alongside The Stone Roses and The Charlatans but never secured a record deal. When the Astrud reunion fell apart, the three carried on as Wilderspool, reshaping old Astrud material and writing new songs including "Space To Breathe". The nine-track LP moves between surreal psych-pop ("White Wednesday"), riverine reflection ("Mersey Mersey") and heavier closers ("Rollercoaster"). Bandcamp tags the release as psychedelic pop and psychedelic rock. The album was recorded remotely between February and April 2026, with Wiff handling production and mixing. An official visualizer for "Strange Voodoo" is streaming on the Think Like A Key Music YouTube channel.
